JOIN US in CELEBRATING and SUPPORTING OUR ESSENTIAL WORKERS:

Challenge Match Update

Sewall Child Development Center is fortunate to have longstanding supporters like the Sewall Board of Directors and Committee members who understand that providing inclusive early childhood education requires significant resources.

This year, members of Sewall’s Board and Committee members would like to engage the community with a matching gift challenge to support our inclusion mission, and to support our constituents during this difficult time.

If 100 members of our community make a gift on or before 4/30/21, the board and committee members have generously offered to contribute $30,000 towards Sewall’s inclusive early childhood programs. A gift of any size will count towards the challenge match and unlock $30,000 to support our transdisciplinary staff and the children and families that Sewall serves.

Of the 100 donors needed to meet the challenge, 71 have given. If YOU and 28 others from our community make a gift today, YOU will help Sewall achieve the match and unlock $30,000!

Please click the “Give Now” button below or text “Sewall” to 50155 to make your gift today! Did you know that research indicates every $1 invested in early childhood education returns $13 in savings to society down the road? (Education Commission of the States, 2017)

IMPACT: Cal and Quinten Update Inclusive Preschool to Inclusive Higher Education

September of last year, you were introduced to Cal and Quinten. They are twin brothers, amazing young men, and Sewall alumni! They were born in January of 2001, Cal with cerebral palsy and Quinten with no disabilities. During their early childhood years, their parents, Heidi and Rich, knew it was important for Cal and Quinten to attend the same early childhood education program. Unfortunately, finding a program in 2003 that would benefit both children was difficult. After searching long and hard, Heidi and Rich were referred to Sewall—the one program that would provide high-quality early childhood program while ensuring that Cal received the additional supports necessary for his success. Cal learned alongside his peers, and therapeutic and special education services were embedded in the classroom. For their family, Sewall was important. It set the stage for both of their education very early, opened their minds to inclusivity, and gave them confidence throughout all their education of the benefits of inclusion. Now many years later, it’s all coming to fruition.

At 20 years of age, Quinten attends CSU and Cal is a freshman at UNC and attends the new GOAL Program. Cal has been at the program for seven months. The Colorado Sun recently did an article titled “UNC program prepares students with intellectual, developmental disabilities for competitive jobs.” Cal is featured in the article. Check out how the GOAL program is helping students with intellectual disabilities live on campus and attend college.
