Arizona Diamondbacks Honor David Solano, Sewall Board Member
David Solano (Sewall alumnus and board member, educator, basketball coach and president of Solano’s No Limit Hoops) was recently honored by throwing the first pitch at an Arizona Diamondbacks’ game on June 18. He was nominated for the award by students he’s coached and taught over the years, kids from 1998, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2016 and 2019 plus five children from the Solano No Limit Hoops program. The program is a free youth basketball league designed to empower young athletes and teach them anything is possible. David said of the nominations, “All of this made it so special. Their nomination paragraphs were amazing to read.”
Thank you, David, for going above and beyond for youth in Phoenix, Arizona.
Daniel Sylvan, Sewall Alumnus, Returns to Sewall to Volunteer in Summer Scampers
Daniel Sylvan, Sewall alumnus, is volunteering at Sewall’s summer camp as part of his Bar Mitzvah at Temple Michal in October 2021. He’s also conducting a food drive to help families get the essentials they need.
Daniel and Joseph, his brother, attended Sewall’s preschool program several years ago. They learned that all children belong despite their differences. Sewall ensures all children are included and that children who learn differently get the education and therapies they need in the classroom.
Daniel shared: “I am doing this food drive to help families with essentials such as diapers, formula and baby food. Many of the families that attend Sewall need this kind of assistance, and I am hopeful we can all pitch in to help this great school.
If you are able to contribute, thank you very much!! It would be fantastic to make your contribution by the end of August 2021 to ensure the kids coming to school in the Fall have all they need to have a successful school year!!”

Amp The Cause Community Service Day Volunteer Project
Sewall was excited to be able to allow volunteers outside late this Spring. Sewall was a beneficiary of another Amp the Cause community service day!
Amp the Cause is a Denver-based nonprofit organization that improves the lives of families through community service projects. The “Amp the Cause Community Day” engages 800+ volunteers in over 5,000 service hours on one day with 55 nonprofits serving Colorado children and families. This year, volunteers from FirstBank spent a day at Sewall doing several projects like:
• Fencing and seeding three large outdoor planters for a sustainable garden
• Moved 10 tons of sand for sand boxes in the toddler and preschool playground
• Rebuilt rock wall in the playground
• Cleaned, organized and provided carpet for the multi-purpose room
Sewall is extremely grateful to the FirstBank volunteers and Amp the Cause!
