2019 SEWALL HOLIDAY DRIVE

On Saturday, December 14, Sewall held the 5th annual holiday drive for families of children ages 3-9. Many wonderful donors and volunteers came together to benefit 48 families who then gave 111 children (50 girls and 61 boys) the joy of opening a brand new toy over the holidays. Used clothes, books and toys were also available for families, as well as a gift wrapping station.

CLASSROOM FUN HATCHING DINOSAUR EGGS

The Dolphin Classroom students hatched dinosaur eggs made of baking soda with colored vinegar. In this project, students strengthened their fingers by using eye droppers that utilize their fine motor skills, increased their vocabulary, and problem solving skills all while creating scientific inquiry.

WELLNESS DURING THE HOLIDAYS — RECAP

In December, Sewall’s administration and social workers held several sessions of “Sewall Conversations” to discuss wellness and self-care during the holidays. These discussions allowed Sewall early childhood professionals time to share strategies and knowledge for their own self-care. This new project for creating space for connecting was very successful. It enabled staff from other classrooms and departments to meet and share since there is limited time for cross over. Staff also reported feeling valued to have the opportunity to share ideas and gain perspective in a relaxed atmosphere.

Welcome New Board Member!

Peter Weinberg was and is very grateful that Sewall existed when his family needed help with his son’s education, and now he is excited to join the Sewall board and advance the mission. Early intervention began after his son Harrison received a diagnosis of ASD (autism spectrum disorder), and, thanks in large part to his time at Sewall, he continues to thrive. Peter graduated from high school in Northern Virginia and attended Colby College in Maine, where he graduated with a B.A. in International Relations. His current role is Senior Manager of Business Analysis for a software development telecommunications service provider. A few years back, Peter taught skiing for 5 seasons, mostly to kids. Aside from the love of skiing, he enjoys listening to music, frisbee (ultimate), hiking, biking and drumming.
