Sara Salazar: Impact for Generations
Sewall teachers make a long-term impact not only on the children and families with whom they work, but also on their own learning and families’ well-being. Sara Salazar is one such example.
Starting at Sewall in 1997 as a paraprofessional placed here through a work program, Sara soon saw that she would be able to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. Sara committed 20 years of service to preschoolers, primarily at Sewall’s southwest satellites where she could use her Spanish skills to teach children and partner with families in the community.
Sara died suddenly last November leaving a big hole to fill. Luckily, however, she instilled in her family the importance of early childhood education and family involvement. Both of Sara’s daughters work at Sewall as young, aspiring educators and Sara’s two grandsons attend Sewall satellites. Her legacy as a teacher lives on with the impact she made.
Marilyn Brown is asking the Sewall community to join her by stepping up and supporting our teachers for this coming year! With the current needs that Sewall is facing, she has agreed to match every gift made from now through Colorado Gives Day (December 4th) dollar for dollar up to $50,000 to support our teachers! If we can raise $50,000 from our community, Marilyn will match this with an additional $50,000! With 34 days left in the challenge, 59{3636cb0a451a12ed88382a3e0ed28b2223ede70e167d2b3efd87582f6f12e3da} has been raised toward reaching our goal. You can help Sewall realize the $50,000 match.
